UNESCO recognized the Fado Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

Fado was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage ( PCI ) of humanity today , Sunday, after voting in favor of the intergovernmental committee of the organization responsible for evaluating proposals from various countries to the award of this distinction .

The decision was made on Sunday , near 12 o'clock and musical expression makes this much more than one of the main symbols of the Portuguese national identity : a cultural expression belonging to the world and recognized as such .

The Portuguese application was one of 49 presented to UNESCO by 24 countries , which will be voted on by the committee until November 29 .

Portugal submitted the application to UNESCO in 2010, and as ambassadors Mariza and Carlos do Carmo , two of the best known performers of Portuguese Fado .

Over the past week , several delegates of the intergovernmental committee had already hinted that they would vote in favor of the Portuguese proposal . Fado , the voice of some of its most iconic performers , there is much that runs the world and makes himself known to many different cultures .
